The National Forest Soil Inventory (BZE)
The Forest Soil Condition Inventory (NFSI, German: BZE) is part of the forest environmental monitoring in Germany. As with the National Forest Condition Survey (WZE), the condition and changes in forest soils, vegetation and forest nutrition are assessed at 1,900 monitoring points distributed across the country, arranged in an 8×8 km grid.
This data helps to identify and assess potential risks to forest soils. On this basis, forestry authorities, forest ofowners and policy-makers can implement forestry measures to achieve sustainable forest management.
